As said by a client on the importance of voice messages

Receiving voices message is very important to me because I don’t have to visit the clinic, but at home. I have get counseling with the counselors by pressing 1 after receiving the phone call to confidentially discuss birth spacing method and health issues.

My name is Chris Smith. I’m currently working as a clinical research fellow at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical medicine and recently worked on the MOTIF project with Marie Stopes International Cambodia

The MOTIF intervention was developed following research which included interviews and FGD with clients and input with local organisations in Cambodia such as InSTEDD.

Mobile phone-based (or mHealth) interventions enable providers to communicate with clients wherever they are located and at convenient time.

Whilst we found that most clients had a mobile phone, we realised that text messages were unlikely to be effective due to limited literacy of clients and lack of support for Khmer script on clients’ phones.

Therefore we developed a voice-based intervention; and we used the voice messaging software called Verboice, developed by InSTEDD.
