All the materials were present and one of the rafts was partially complete. It was a unique design. There were two large logs on either side with smaller bamboo pieces interlaced in a lattice pattern. It was similar to a knitting stitch with the lanais tied independently around each bamboo log connection in an x-pattern. It wouldn’t fall apart Stella thought; Lois was a master knitter and tied the most fantastic knots. Stella didn’t know how long it would last but she would bet their lives on its structure.
It was odd looking at Becky and Lois working together. They were such opposites. Lois was pale and redheaded and of short stature, while Becky was deeply tanned and almost 6’2’’. Becky was larger than fat with muscled arms from years of hard work in her extensive garden. The two women were in charge of raft building.
Joyce and Abery were preparing and gathering food for the evening meal.
Stella and Tia were gathering supplies for the trip. They were looking for fruit, water and containers for holding everything. Large bamboo sections had to be hacked down and separated for use as waterproof vessels.
Anna and Rose were having a difficult time making the second raft. Stella decided to help them sort out the design and layout the logs to make it a bit easier. Tia drifted off toward the river. Thinking she…
