Analysis of Money
Does it require aggression to hoard money?
The people at the helm of the spiritual path do not regard money as a means of gaining happiness. Money is a means of gaining material possession and does not necessarily lead to real happiness. Using money for fulfilling basic necessities is fine but hoarding it involves one to use their aggressive nature.
Beautiful things in life are free
“Any action that involves pure love does not yield money”
A mother taking care of the baby mostly involves pure love and there cannot be money involved in this act.
It is only when one does his job with a bit of aggression or fear is when money is needed in return.
Earlier the society was formulated in a manner that there existed a wide variety of people who would be involved in acts of spreading love and they will be taken care of by those who take the brunt of being aggressive and gaining material possessions.
In India, there were monks who would spread love and wisdom amongst people and would live on alms given by people. But they were the ones who actually were the pillar of the society and were the most revered people.
Similarly, a woman would create an atmosphere of love within the house where every individual felt relaxed and happy. They also didn’t need money in return.
If these acts involved money then the same effect would not have been seen.
“Money has an inherent feelings of fear and attachment and cannot lead to pure acts of love”
Evolution of society
With time the dependency of people on each other declined considerably. Now people would just take care of themselves and this directly caused a decline in activities that involve pure love.
Love and fear can’t co-exist and hence as fear for survival grew amongst people, acts involving love came down. Now everything has money associated with it. Monks and mothers are also keeping track of money and has caused degradation of their revered status in society.
This change in society cannot be undone. One cannot simply blame people for becoming selfish. There is a reason for the way the current society has molded itself into and one needs to adapt accordingly.
Attachment is the cause
“If there is any creation and there are other people who are attached to it then also money will be involved”
“When people fear losing something created by another person then even though the creator created it with pure love, the buyer would shower money on the creator”
This is true mainly in the computer industry. There are many programmers who simply create software out of pure love for programming but the people who use it are attached to the software for their needs and shower the programmer with money.
Money achieved in this manner is better but still is based upon some form of fear and hence may not provide real happiness to the person. But as mentioned earlier, in current society one cannot depend on others for his basic needs so one has to learn to handle money.
I believe the only way to have money and not have fear and aggression is to be detached from it. There are many billionaires like Warren Buffet who do not use their money for buying luxury items. They have even decided to donate a large part of their earnings. This detachment from money enables them to lead a normal life.
Even if someone uses the money to get some experiences that money can only buy then he can have those experiences but without being attached to them. Being devoid of attachment would mean that the person will have no fear of losing that experience.
Conclusion
Society has changed a lot in recent times and the inter-dependency amongst people is low. This has caused every individual to take care of their needs themselves. Previously there existed many acts that did not involve money and hence the outcome was acts of pure love but today most of the acts have some amount of money involved and are causing people to become fearful and aggressive.
One should not blame people or society for the current state but understand that there is a reason for the way society has molded itself in. One should adapt to this new society and learn to handle money in an effective way.
I believe the only way one can handle the hoarding of money is to be detached from it. You never know when you will need money so having a big bank balance is required but at the same time since you are detached so you will not have to face the ill effects of money. You can still be involved in acts of pure love and lead life more joyfully.
