We looked at Jezebel. This time we look at Absalom, King David’s Son.

A Brief History of Absalom, Son of King David

The Bible tells us both the good and bad points of its people. King David, in First Samuel, is a good, likable character. God even calls him, “A man after my own heart.” But that doesn’t mean he did everything right. Things changed in his life. Things got quieter and more peaceful for David for a time, and this is when the devil sometimes tends to strike hardest.

One of his daughters was raped by a half-brother and there is a killing by David’s son Absalom, who then runs away. In some ways, it sounds like a ‘Sin City’ melodrama on TV. When Absalom returns two years later, his dad David the King welcomes him back home. But the result is disastrous.

Absalom was very handsome and charismatic, and also a good politician. He would talk to people in his dad’s kingdom and win them over to like him better than his dad. It’s reported: “He stole the hearts of people.”
