October 16, 2024, Judge Robert McBurney, a judge in the US state of Georgia, blocked a hand-count pro-Trump mandate. The pro-Trump majority wanted November presidential ballots to be counted by hand. Judge McBurney has ruled that poll workers will not have had sufficient training to handle millions of ballots in the upcoming election. He used the term “administrative chaos” in this current ruling. Judge McBurney said the “11th-and-one-half-hour implementation of the hand count rule” would diminish public confidence in the outcome. “This election season is fraught; memories of January 6 [US Capitol attack] have not faded away, regardless of one’s view of that date’s fame or infamy. Anything that adds uncertainty and disorder to the electoral process disserves the public,” he wrote.

To clarify, a hand-count requires only three (3) poll workers in Georgia’s more than 6,500 precincts to break open sealed boxes of ballots. These ballots have already been scanned by machine. These three workers would check to count the votes and report if there was a match.
