Here are 5 Fascinating Types of Multiverses
As if one universe isn’t fascinating enough, physicists tell us that several others are probably out there for our amusement.
But there’s a catch; we first have to wrap our heads around the idea before the amusement kicks in.
We need to start with a clarification of what they are.
What are multiverses?
Multiverses represent a theoretical concept used in particle physics and modern cosmology that potential universes can manifest in some form or fashion.
In addition to this, several different types of these possible universes can exist. Some of the models for these multiverses can get quite complex and extravagant.
As to what metrics or parameters specifically define a multiverse depends on the individual physicist you ask. As might be expected from theoretical models, there is controversy and constant debate galore.
One approach to clarifying multiverses is to examine the finely tuned metrics of our solar system — without referring to an intelligent creator. Not that physicists are atheists per se, but the Supreme Being model provides very few scientific answers.
5 major types of multiverses
Although some scientists disagree, there is some concrete evidence that supports the concept of multiverses¹. In the thoughts of many bright minds, they’ve chosen to embrace them until something more substantial comes along.
Let us examine the five major kinds of multiverses².
Infinite or repeating universes
One type of multiverse uses the infinite space-time notion. This infinite universe theory is perhaps the most plausible to non-scientists as many believe the universe is infinite.
It presents a model that you would eventually come across another Earth and maybe even a duplicate version of yourself if you were to travel out into space far enough.
Like the Infinite universe model, Bubble universes are also pretty simple to comprehend. This theory offers the idea that the Big Bang, which spawned our universe, wasn’t the only one.
This model contends that several other Big Bang events have occurred to create bubbles of universes throughout all of space. Since a few decades ago, scientists concluded that our universe is still expanding from the Big Bang’s blast, it is conceivable that expanding Bubble universes could eventually encounter one another.
This type of multiverse theory suggests that there may be universes in existence that we cannot see or perceive. These Parallel universes (also called ‘Braneworlds’) exist in additional dimensions beyond what our senses can experience.
Events in these higher-dimension universes are taking place in ‘parallel’ with events that are simultaneously occurring in our universe.
The laws of quantum physics view the universe in terms of probabilities. Ultimately in the quantum world, every possible outcome of a situation or choice will eventually occur.
This means that a brand new universe gets created at every branch in the flowchart of potential outcomes.
For many years, mathematics has been a primary tool for describing the parameters of the universe.
However, some universes could exist under a different mathematical structure. This means that mathematics could also describe and define new universes with a different set of parameters.
