Are we dreaming, or are we awake within our dream of life?

Life is a dream. We dream of life. Our reality is where we place our full attention, either on purpose or by default, and sometimes by accident.

Where is our attention placed? We have been trained to go about our business, day-by-day and year-by-year, worrying, rejoicing, planning, reacting, celebrating, regretting, reminiscing, playing, working, and focusing on myriad activities and preoccupations of the mind. There is no dearth of problems to occupy our thoughts and concerns.

Fighting the futility of it all

The sense of self whom we believe we are craves purpose, and without it, those who recognize a futility or purposelessness to their lives may choose to end it all; or to at least somehow make a change, which is really the same idea. How does this “ending” play out? We may decide to spend more time focusing on distractions, move to a new town, change jobs, or even contemplate suicide, unable to bear our own mental distress. Some seek to wake up from the dream of ignorance that keeps them in a cycle of joy, indifference, and suffering.
