Born in West Bromwich in the West Midlands to Irish parents,
both from big Irish families seen me grow up in a very Irish environment.
Tis where I get my second-generation Irish cheekiness and humour from.

Times were very hard for both parents having to move to England
to find money to support their families as so many Irish found
themselves having to do due to English oppression over the hundreds of years.

This is where I get my rebellious streak from as some may have read in my writings. Don’t get me wrong, English people are great, tis the feckin’ establishment I have a beef with.

Asthma has been the scourge of my life, spending time in a school with an
isolation ward to quickly deal with children having severe attacks.

Leaving school at 16, working as a carpenter for five years helped ease my asthma as I built up strength. I then became a high steel sheet metal worker or factory cladding as they call it for the following nine years.

During this time, I found my voice writing free verse poetry to deal with my overactive mind, was it the asthma drugs or inherited? I was quite “deep” maybe because of all the time I spent in me head while I was ill. It was tough to deal with sometimes, even though I was mainly happy go lucky, some weeks would get quite dark.

My passion was playing the drums trying to make it in bands for 15 years.
Playing hard, along with steel cutting on the roofs was the start of my life long relationship with raging tinnitus. My own fault which helps me deal with it.

Finally moving to London from a small town seen my career start in the music industry, working on a T.V show, T.F.I. Friday saw my introductory into the world of touring as a drum and percussion technician, a “roadie” getting to do what I enjoy, travelling the world with drums and music.

This work gave me time off and enough money to travel in between jobs. During my time in Thailand one year, I decided this was the place I needed to settle, and so I did with my wife in our little restaurant on the beach. I still continued to tour as the restaurant only provides enough to survive due to the long low season.

This pandemic has put a stop to touring and trading, for now, tough times, so this has been the time to start writing again after a thirty-year hiatus! Basically, saving my sanity.

Meeting wonderful people here is truly a blessing, it is an absolute honour and a pleasure reading and engaging with you all. Thank you so much for your kindness and you valued time… Always. Jx 🙏✨💖☘

As always. Thank you, Dr Mehmet Yildiz and the ILLUMINATION-Curated team for giving my words a platform, your encouragement and help. Thank you all for reading and your precious time. Always. J. 🙏
