4 Proven exercises to help you gain control when temptation strikes

Some exercises help you gain control over your resistance to change. Whether you’re dropping unhealthy habits or launching new initiatives, we all need practical exercises to build more self-control.

They don’t always work, but they have worked for me enough times to make them worthy tools to add to your collection.

Self-control means regulating one’s emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in the face of temptations and contrary impulses.

Historically, in the past, I have had some success with self-control, as with regulating smoking behavior, alcohol consumption, overeating behavior (weight control), and even coffee-drinking behavior, at least for a time. This addiction I still find challenging to control.

Here are four exercises you can use to improve upside leverage or self-control. They have worked for me enough times to warrant their recommendation.

Develop Self-awareness
