Lance Reddick (1962 -2023) died of natural causes but his undeniable presence on The Wire and Oz reign and loomed larger than life. He had a tv presence on screen that commanded attention. Also, he played in several tv series and commercials. He played Charon in the “John Wick” franchise, and was also seen in “Fringe” and “Bosch.”

Reddick, a Baltimore native who attended Friends School of Baltimore. As a teenager, he studied classical music and taught a summer program teaching music theory and composition at the Walden School. Also, he attended the Peabody Conservatory and as an aspiring musician studied at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. Thereafter, he pursued acting at Yale and graduated in 1994 with a master of fine arts degree.

Television became his medium for his artistry as a consummate television star. He landed his first tv role on the TV series “New York Undercover” and that led to other minor roles in other series and films, like the 1998’s “Great Expectations” and “The West Wing.” He was seen on “OZ” and thereafter the TV work flowed in his favor. He enveloped his characters with depth and truth.
