“I’m being so good. I eat the same thing every day because I’ve been on the cabbage soup diet, but I’m not losing weight. As soon as I stop the diet, it piles back on.”

This surprised me. Not the weight part, as this type of diet will drop weight at first, but as the weight is water, you’ll put it straight back on; what surprised me is that people still went on an outdated and restrictive diet.

I explained this to Joanne and also that she was depleting her microbes when she ate only one type of food.

“My micro what?”

According to current research, microbes are the foundation for all of life.

What are Microbes?

And what do microbes have to do with weight loss and health? How can something less than a micrometre in size affect your health and your weight?

Microbes are the smallest living organisms known, and you have around 100 trillion of them in your body. Dr Martin J. Blaser at the New York University School of Medicine says,

“The current estimate is that humans have 10 trillion human cells and about 100 trillion bacterial cells.”
