On December 17, 2024, in Moscow, Russian radiological, biological, and chemical protection forces chief Lt. Gen. Igor Kirillov was killed when a bomb detonated on an electric scooter embellished on his residence. Kirillov allegedly organized the deployment of banned chemical weapons in Ukraine, and Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) said it was responsible. It is the first time since the conflict began that one of Russia’s most senior military figures has been assassinated in the capital.
