No Effort Guarantees You Success. Why You Should Still Make an Effort
Sometimes you lose even though you did everything right. Nevertheless, you were right to try.
There are no guarantees in life. Every one of us learns this lesson sooner or later. Many people cannot accept this simple fact and become bitter. Life is unfair, they say, and they are right and wrong at the same time.
Of course, life is not fair because fairness is a human concept that does not exist outside our imagination.
Generations of philosophers have pondered the question of what fairness is and how it can be achieved. Life is not a philosopher. It is neither good nor evil, and it is not concerned with the mental constructs of human beings.
The universe owes us nothing — especially fairness. We are all given a bag of possibilities and options to use or discard. And this is where life turns out to be fair after all. Each of us has options that we can use or discard. There is no one who has no choice to go one way or the other.
So life is not fair. This is a simple fact that we should neither be happy nor sad about. Lack of fairness in life is primarily not a reason to despair of life.
Most of the things we strive for, we don’t get. Most of the time, the reason is that we are not willing to pay the necessary price. We want wealth and happiness, but we are unwilling to sacrifice and make an effort for it. In this case, we have only ourselves to blame.
But just as often, we fail to achieve our goals even though we do everything we can to reach them. We follow every tried and tested piece of advice, chastise ourselves, and do absolutely everything right, and yet we end up empty-handed. Anyone who has experienced this knows how frustrating it can be.
Still, it’s wrong to let it stop us. We can’t change it if something didn’t go the way we wanted it to. But we can tick off the defeat and start with something new.
Losing once doesn’t mean you’ll lose the next time. But if you give up, you’ve already lost. You’ve probably heard this wisdom a thousand times. But have you internalized it?
Knowing the truth is not enough. You have to fully understand and accept it to live with it. If you give up, you’ve already lost. Everyone says it, but almost no one really understands it.
Say this sentence quietly to yourself and think about it. Do you feel the truth in it? And if you feel it, what do you do with it? Is there currently a situation in your life to which you can apply this sentence? Yes? Then do it.
Don’t give up, no matter what you’ve just failed at. You owe it to yourself not to give up. You don’t want to be on your deathbed in a few decades, blaming yourself for giving up on many dreams too soon.
No amount of effort guarantees you success. You should still make an effort — every day.
