Our Marriage Wouldn’t Survive

Most people don’t understand this about me, but if my husband and I were on polar opposite sides politically, our marriage would end. Our shared worldview matters that much. Here’s why.

This isn’t about politics. It’s about relationships. What matters most. What you can live with and what’s non-negotiable. The deal breakers despite all the reasons you love each other. Or thought you did.

For me the non-negotiables are kindness, being open-minded, smart, zero mind games, and not a whiff of toxic masculinity.

But trust is number one.

Cheat on me and I’m gone. No therapy. No second chance.

No one’s ever done it, thankfully. But I’ve only had one long-term relationship. My trust issues come from my mother leaving when I was five. Attachment and Freudian stuff I won’t bore you with.

And a guy has to be funny.

An uptight humorless man is not my kind of man. Sarcastic and irreverent are important because that’s the native language of my childhood. Sarcasm, dry wit. Wildly inappropriate banter in small doses. Take yourself too seriously and I’m out.
