It was a privilege and pleasure to know Senator Harry Reid

Most of the population of the United States likely cannot name more than a few of the U.S. Senators although, hopefully, they can name those who serve from the state where they reside. Even the leaders within the Senate are often not that well known.

Harry Mason Reid Jr. was a leader in the U.S. Senate. He was an American lawyer and politician who was born on December 2, 1939. He was a U.S. Senator from Nevada from 1987 to 2017 when he chose not to seek reelection. He passed away from pancreatic cancer on December 28, 2021, at the age of 82.

He attended Southern Utah University and then earned a degree from Utah State University after which Reid received a law degree from George Washington University in 1964. While attending law school, he worked as a police officer with the U.S. Capitol Police.

He began his public career as the city attorney for Henderson, Nevada. He was elected to the Nevada Assembly in 1968. He served as the 25th Lieutenant Governor of Nevada from 1971 to 1975. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives for Nevada where he served from 1983 to 1987. He was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1986 and served until 2017.
