Similarities between the Kingdom of Heaven and Earth #14
As promised in the previous story, let us now talk about the similarities between the kingdom of heaven and earth. To do so, let’s use some accounts from people who remember what the kingdom of heaven looks like (such as Jesus, for example), in order to better understand why the earth looks the way it does today. It is just man who brought here what he was introduced to, in his original kingdom. He was sent here to transform the earth, so it is only natural that he brought a system he is familiar with, a system he was introduced to in his original kingdom. Let’s see some of these similarities now. One day Jesus was talking to His disciples, and He said to them:
(1) There are many mansions in my Father’s house. If it were not so, I would have told you. I will prepare a place for you. And it shall come to pass, when I have gone and prepared a place for you, that I will come again and take you with me, that where I am, there you may be also.
This already implies that there are houses in the kingdom of heaven. It is therefore no wonder that man had the idea of building houses when he came to earth. As mentioned above, even if our models of houses today are not exactly like those of the time when huts and other buildings were built, the concept has always been the same: from the moment man came on earth, he was always aware that he had to have a shelter, a roof over his head. And when you take the time to think about it, you realize that these are not the kind of ideas that come out of nowhere, these are the ideas that you reproduce, after seeing them somewhere. Here are some more:
(2) But our own city is in heaven, from where we also await the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour.
(3) But now they desire a better one, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.
Through these 2 passages, we understand that the kingdom of heaven has cities. No wonder then, that man also organized his society in cities.
Having had a revelation from heaven, the apostle John wrote the following in his book of Revelation:
(4) Immediately I was filled with joy in spirit. And behold, there was a throne in heaven, and on that throne sat someone.
This passage tells us that there is a throne in the kingdom of heaven. And this is a tradition here on earth: if you go into any establishment that is supposed to be the house of the king or the president, you will see that he (or she) has a chair that is meant for him (or her), a chair that symbolizes that he (or she) is the ruler. In other words, in almost every room where he or she spends a lot of time, there is a kind of throne that is intended for him or her. If nowadays we attach less importance to the design of this throne, in the days when societies were organized only in kingdoms, it took more time to shape this chair, this throne. If you’ve watched television series that talk about the medieval era, such as Game of Thrones, Vickings and others, you know what I’m talking about.
Man has the image and the likeness of his Creator
In the story “Where Am I From?’’, we told the story of an eagle that was born among the hens, and therefore grew up believing that it was a hen. If this eagle had a little discernment, he would have quickly realized that he was not a hen, because even physically, he would have noticed that he was different from the others. By looking at a child, we can know his origins or his family, because he/she looks like the parents. Likewise, by looking at man, we can know that his origin is the kingdom of heaven, because he looks like God.
(5) Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness, and let him have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.
By saying that man has the likeness of his Creator, the point is to understand that man has the physical appearance of his Creator (hands, ears, mouth, etc.). That’s why in some books of the Bible, we speak of God who speaks (He has a mouth), who listens (He has ears), who stretches out His hand to act, etc.
(6) But God appeared in a dream by night to Laban the Aramaean, and said to him: …
(7) And God heard the voice of the child …
(8) But his bow stood fast, and his hands were strengthened by the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob: so he became the shepherd, the rock of Israel
In the same way, by observing a child, beyond its physical resemblance to its parents, one can know that it is their child, just by observing his/her character. There are families where almost everyone is courteous. Similarly, there are families whose members are truly helpful. When we talk about being made in the image of God, we are talking about having His character. That is why as His Creator, man can be angry, have a will, be patient, love, etc., because our character is influenced by our origins. Here are some verses showing some of God’s character traits:
(9) You shall do with the rest of the silver and gold what you and your brethren shall see fit to do, according to the will of your God.
(10) But God proves his love for us, in that, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
(11) …who were once unbelievers, when the patience of God was prolonged in the days of Noah, during the building of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight, were saved through the water.
And many others…
With this story, we therefore end the answer to the first question, which is: Where do I come from? We understand, therefore, that man comes from the kingdom of heaven. In the next story, we begin the answer to the second question: Who am I ?
