I sat down in front of my worn-out Surface Pro. “ What will my YouTube video be about today?” I asked myself. I based my decision on three criteria: the stats of my stories, the interests of my YouTube audience, and my fans' engagement.

As a good performer should, I try to give my audience what they want. I ask my audience for story ideas when I respond to comments. I get a lot of good ideas that I turn into videos.

It’s interesting what resonates with my audience. A lot of videos I throw out there not expecting anything get a lot of views and engagement. There are also videos I put my heart into that didn’t do as well.

If my story does well on Medium, the video will most likely do well on YouTube, but only sometimes. I don’t have the budget for a lot of fancy lighting or a decent microphone. I would love to have those things, but I can’t afford them right now. Most likely, beginners will also have a low budget. In my experience, you don’t need expensive equipment. You can start with what you have.
