The Search for Intelligence: Out There or Within?
“Why is there so much effort being put into trying to find intelligent life on other planets, when there is a serious question about how much intelligent life there is here?” — Thomas Sowell
Through using radio telescopes and robotic probes since the 1960s humanity seeks to establish communication with intelligent extraterrestrials despite the constant dreams of such contacts. Extraterrestrial life detection pursuits have become an overriding fascination for both researchers who conduct investigations and writers who craft narratives about the phenomenon because billions of dollars are invested into such cosmic searches for extraterrestrial signals.
According to Thomas Sowell we must examine our external quest for intelligence because we are afraid of discovering missing elements within our own internal selves.
The Paradox of Intelligence
The essence of intelligence reaches beyond educational information accumulation and mathematics problem solving abilities. Accurately assessing our world requires the ability to deduce solutions as well as make the best choices alongside the ability to maintain sustainable development and balance between progress and harmony. Our world holds an apparent contradiction based on this assessment of our civilization.
