Not wasted but ultimately not productive.
Almost six years ago I set out to write erotic stories in my spare time. I was pretty good at it, pushing out three long stories, each one with some satisfying steamy spice. I had a blog to promote my stories and discuss whatever I wanted, I linked up with fellow eroticists on Twitter and Facebook, I was part of a community.
I wasn’t earning much. Made a few dollars while I learned the ropes and knots of erotica publishing on Kindle Direct. The real money comes in when there is a sufficient follower base and back catalogue to demonstrate that the writer is serious and dependable. Erotica readers, not to put too fine a point on it, require regular recharges for their fantasy reading.
I discovered Medium.com, began writing the same sort of material as I put into my chatty blog, came to the attention of a few publications, and went from there.
Eventually I became a Senior Editor for the ILLUMINATION brand. That was a lot of fun.
