I have been, and continue to be, a relatively happy Medium writer. I have not earned the big bucks or garnered the mega attention that <fill in the blank> so many have.

“Fill in the blank” because everyone has their version of who has made it big, and too often, in my mind, those versions like to tout their success a little too much. Many try to further monetize their success with courses that, if we sign up, will enable us to become highly-paid Medium writers, too.

I will never criticize those who hype their Medium success to further bolster their bank account. Capitalism is a wonderful thing. I just haven’t had that experience within Medium.

My experience has been more of a “Steady Eddy.” Whoever “Eddy” is, I apologize. You sound so average, and I’m sure you're not. It’s my way of saying that I’ve had fairly predictable and mostly consistent results that have been short of outstanding.

The difference for me is that I’ve never depended on my Medium earnings to fund my life. I’ve depended on it to further my writing skills and build a network with other writers. We help each other build our writing game.

So why did I join Substack?
