The Digital Detox: Why Unplugging is the New Wellness Trend
These days it seems our devices are stuck to us. Screens do take over our lives — constant notifications, and endless scrolling. That’s where the digital detox idea comes in, which is the deliberate break from technology that’s turning into more than a trend. That’s a way to reset, recharge, and reconnect with what’s important.
Let’s face it: the pandemic further increased our need for technology. Screens were becoming essential during remote work, online classes, as well as virtual hangouts. That constant connectivity has a downside, however. I have just dealt in writing with burnout, anxiety, and that nagging feeling that I’m falling behind on everything that really matters.

Christina got so burned out, she hit rock bottom and in 2023 was a popular influencer sharing her digital detox journey. Panic attacks, insomnia, and a complete exhaustion drove her to close down for a month and log off. Her social media posts on rediscovering simple joys such as hiking and journaling made sense to millions about how much screen time they needed to think and question in order for their lives to be full of joy (Smith, 2023). She’s a story of just how much we all need balance in our tech filled lives.
