Why I Joined Substack as a Writer

It’s almost as if on Substack, my subscribers list is growing itself.

I started my journey with Substack when I began noticing that some of the authors I follow were making the switch to this platform.

They were talking about why they chose Substack, and a few key themes really caught my attention.

One of the main reasons that piqued my interest was how Substack isn’t just a place to write or blog, like on Medium, but it’s also designed to help you build a list of subscribers.

You can actually download your subscriber list and integrate it into your email marketing system, or you can keep your subscribers on Substack itself and have every new article sent directly to them.

Another feature that I found really cool is the ability to decide whether you want to charge for your newsletter.

You can even set up different tiers of content — some for paid subscribers and some for those who are just following for free. I loved the flexibility this offered.

I have been a writer on Medium for over 5 years, but my stats here have tanked for the past couple of months.

Under these circumstances, Substack felt like a great alternative, offering not only a dedicated channel for my content but also the ability to build an email list.

And as we all know, having a direct line to your readers is one of the most important things you can do as an author.

It’s essential for letting them know about your books, your journey, and anything else you’re writing about.

Getting started on Substack was straightforward.

You simply visit the website, create an account, and the platform guides you through setting up your newsletter.

It’s all pretty intuitive, including the options for setting up monetization if you want to offer a paid newsletter.

Substack also has a social media of its own. It’s called Substack Notes, and it’s a great place to promote your Substack content.

The only thing is, the only people who are going to read your posts in Notes are those who are already on the platform.

That’s why, to support all writers who are starting or struggling to grow on Substack, I have started a Facebook Group called Substack Society.

You can share your experiences as well as links to your Substack publications, newsletters, or individual posts there.

Click here to go to Substack Society on Facebook and join it.

Also, if you’re a writer on Medium and looking to expand your audience to Substack, I highly recommend joining the publication described in the post linked below.
