In Pokémon Sleep, you aid a professor in studying how Pokémon sleep and the mysterious power of Snorlax, which increases the drowsiness of nearby Pokémon. Snorlax is the central Pokémon in this game, and to obtain various Pokémon, you need to enhance your Snorlax by using Pokémon Sleep while you sleep, collecting berries from Pokémons that you own, and using the cooking feature.

In this article, I would like to give you some pros and cons of using Pokémon Sleep.

Cons

  1. Spending too much time
For a wellness app like Pokémon Sleep, one might expect not to spend a lot of time within the app. However, besides the sleep-tracking aspect, Pokémon Sleep includes certain daily activities, such as reviewing your sleep data, collecting berries, and cooking for your Snorlax. While this is a central aspect of the app for collecting Pokémon during sleep, the animations of dialog boxes, taking snapshots of Pokémon, and loading screens can be time-consuming. On average, it takes about 10–15 minutes to complete these reviews each time I wake up.
  2. Not rewarding enough
Progress in collecting Pokémon and candies within the game feels slow, which can lead to a lack of satisfaction. For those who want quicker progress, the game offers microtransactions that can speed up your progression.
  3. Sleep Recording Accuracy
After using this app for more than 30 days, I noticed some discrepancies in sleep recording accuracy. There were days when I believed I fell asleep within 5–10 minutes after using the sleep mode, but the app recorded that I slept 30–60 minutes later, impacting my sleep quality score.

Pros

  1. At least you got something else from sleeping
Before knowing this app, I often wondered, “What can I gain from sleeping apart from improved health and energy?” Pokémon Sleep provides an answer. Sleep is typically a routine that lacks excitement; it’s something we do to refresh our bodies and stay healthy. However, this app adds an element of fun to sleep. There have been times when I felt motivated to sleep early to earn an extra Charmander’s candy, as I was close to evolving my Charmander.
  2. Helpful Tips
Pokémon Sleep gives some sleeping tips within the app, some of which are really helpful, to understand the mechanism of sleeping and cause me to sleep faster. Even the sleeping tips introduced me to information I wasn’t aware of before. For example, I learned that eating before sleep can make it harder to fall asleep because of increased core body temperature which decreases our drowsiness.
  3. It gives me insight into my sleep
This app records our sleep score and even records noises that we make in our sleep. These things are important to gain insight into our sleep. If I had a low sleep score, it means that I need to improve my sleep score tomorrow so I can stay healthy. And, just recently, from the sleep recording I knew that I had a runny nose when I was sleeping, so I took some medication before sleeping to handle this problem.
  4. It makes me feel more fresh after I wake up.
I don’t really know the science behind it, or even if it could be just some placebo effect. However, by using Pokémon Sleep, I feel better after I wake up. Even if I get a low score from lack of sleep.

Conclusion

Pokémon Sleep, a game that turns sleeping into an adventure, may have its disadvantages, like the time-consuming aspect. But it does something unique, it makes sleep more fun. As you collect Pokémon in your dreams and pick up insightful sleep tips, you’ll find sleep less of just a routine and more of an enjoyable activity. It’s not just about catching Pokémon; it’s about catching better sleep. So, whether you’re a Pokémon enthusiast or just want to sleep better, give Pokémon Sleep a try. Happy catching Pokémon in your dream!
