Sony Sells Over 40 Million PS5 Consoles
Sony has hit another major milestone with their PlayStation 5 consoles as sales surpass the 40 million mark, as announced by the company in the last few days.
The launch of the PlayStation 5 was met with extremely high demand but frustratingly limited supply. Due to several factors, including a worldwide pandemic, Sony was unable to keep up with the huge demand for their new console for a rather long time. In fact, it was only a couple of years into the console’s lifecycle that you could walk into a retail store and buy one there and then.
However, with all that behind them, Sony have now announced an impressive new sales milestone that puts the PlayStation 5 console on a similar trajectory to its predecessor, the PlayStation 4. A whopping 40 million consoles have been sold since launch day, a little under 3 years ago. Although slightly behind the PS4 currently, when you take into account the huge battles faced at the start of the lifecycle, it’s a highly impressive figure.
And with huge blockbuster games such as Spider-Man 2 on the horizon, there’s no doubt that PlayStation 5 consoles will continue to sell at an exponential rate.
Is there a chance that the PlayStation 5 will eventually surpass its predecessor?
