Open-world games have come a long way since the release of the first Grand Theft Auto, which first made the concept famous in 1997. Even from Grand Theft Auto V to Horizon Zero Dawn, there’s been an exponential leap in graphics, gameplay, and other features that make open-world games more engaging than ever before. In fact, if you haven’t played one of the best open-world games lately, you’re really missing out on something special!

#1: The Witcher 3

In The Witcher 3 you play as Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter known as a Witcher. This game has some of the best graphics in gaming and is easily one of the most beautiful games ever made. The gameplay is great and it’s really easy to pick up, especially if you’ve played other RPG games before. The story is also really good, with lots of twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

#2: Fallout 4

Fallout 4 is an open world role-playing game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. The game was released on November 10, 2015, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Fallout 4 has the player assume control of a character referred to as the Sole Survivor who emerges from a long-term cryogenic stasis in order to explore the ruins of Boston.

#3: Grand Theft Auto V

The newest instalment of the Grand Theft Auto series, GTA V is set in a fictional version of Los Angeles. It features three playable characters, each with their own unique story and skills. This game has won many awards since its release including Game of the Year 2013 and Game Developers Choice Awards 2014.

#4: Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag

Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag, while not the best of the series, is a great game that never ceases to amaze. The story revolves around Edward Kenway, who is a British privateer turned pirate and Assassin during the Golden Age of Piracy. The protagonist shares many qualities with his grandson from Assassin’s Creed III: Connor Kenway.

#5: Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild

It’s not often that a game can be so ground-breaking as to be considered a game changer. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one such game, and it has set the bar for video games going forward. There are no words to describe how incredible this game is and there are plenty of reviews out there if you want them. Instead, let’s talk about what sets this open world apart from the others. One of the most obvious differences is in how expansive the world is. I made a video about it on my YouTube channel check it out HERE and subscribe.
