Dear language lovers,

Today I bring you a very interesting collaboration that may shed some more light on how languages travel and change over time.

Last week I was invited to represent my native language on Bahador Alast’s show on YouTube. I and Arnika (the Sanskrit speaker in the picture) played a game. The game’s goal was to guess the meaning of a word spoken in a language neither of us can speak.

The results were great! We discovered many cognates that Lithuanian and Sanskrit share despite vast geographical distances.

The reason why these two languages still retain many cognates and similar grammar structures is due to linguistic conservatism. For this reason, they still hold a resemblance to what linguists call the Proto-Indo-European language — a common ancestors of all Indo-European languages.

Here is the full video, I hope that you will find it interesting and enjoyable!

If you enjoyed the video, follow me on Instagram and YouTube for more future content relating to languages, cultures and history. Cheers!
