The story of how Karissa took her life is as fascinating as that of her death. After making a post on 4chan’s /b/ board, she became something of an Internet legend. In 2007, a user with no name made a few posts on 4chan’s /b/ board asking for advice about ways to commit suicide. With a hint of sarcasm, he promised to do it — and then found himself in charge of an entire community that wanted him to keep his word. The thread devolved into chaos over several days; some people were trying to talk him out of killing himself while others egged him on and gave suggestions.

On January 1, 2017, a post appeared on 4chan titled Anybody wanna buy some girl’s used panties? The post was accompanied by a photo of a young woman wearing nothing but black thigh-high stockings and heels. It had been shared more than 400 times in less than three hours. Who took it?
