I am a big fan of street food. One reason is convenience. When I am out and about travelling or sightseeing or simply doing things, I don’t necessarily want or can stop for a seated meal during the day. Sometimes I might have limited time but still want to make the most of my visit so I would prefer something portable, quick and easy so that i can be on my way sooner. And I don’t have to compromise on taste either; street food can be just as delicious and satisfying. It is also generally cheaper than a restaurant meal, which for me is a plus.
But the most important reason for me is authenticity. While there may be many establishments that really are just tourist traps, street vendors tend to be more authentic and an expression of the local culture. You can also tell at a glance if the people queuing for food are locals or tourists and immediately have a sense of how true what you’re going to get is. And generally, the longer the queue, the better the food.
