You’ve heard, I’m sure, about those of the digital generation who like to capture every single scintilla of life. Largely known in the trade as “influencers,” they’re the ones front-and-center on the beach; in the club; along a well-traveled road, taking selfies with the flora and fauna.

My daughter, in fact, is one of them. The Oldest runs a food blog, and has never been shy about pulling out her phone as we sit down to eat. Or even grabbing her husband’s plate and ferrying it outside for a quick snap, where there’s better light.

We’ve gotten used to waiting over the years. For the food to arrive; for our child to decide what to capture for posterity and where to pose it; for her to return to the table with our plates, thank-you-very-much.

But as much as we Boomers love to make fun of the Millennials we birthed, I have something to admit. I, on more than one occasion, have taken many a snap of what I’m about to consume. No, not just because I want to post it on social media — of course, I like bragging about where I’ve been! — but because it helps keep me connected to those memories, and plan future experiences to come.
