- What Is a Keto Diet?
Keto is considered an elimination diet meaning that you can and should tweak it as you go along to fit your needs.
A keto diet is any diet that will put someone into ketosis. By following healthy eating guidelines one can achieve ketosis and switch their metabolic fuel source to ketones rather than glucose.
This is achieved by eliminating carbohydrates from the diet until a level of 20 grams per day is reached. At that point one should be in ketosis, and the switch to ketone-burning for energy should happen. This is also called fat-adaptation or keto-adaptation.
You will be eating mostly unprocessed foods. You can eat whenever you are hungry until satiated. Food choices will be fatty meats and fish, eggs, butter, salt to taste, and non-starchy vegetables up to 20 grams of carbohydrates.
Author’s Note: I consider Keto to be a type of fasting, in a way. Fasting as a practice is very beneficial. In Isaiah 58:6 fasting is chosen by God “to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke.”
