The media has a knack for wrongly painting the image of certain nations. Though most times, these images are often true, they do not do justice nor paint the whole picture of a place. I bet a lot of people do not know anything more besides what the media paints of Africa and its nations. So today I am putting together a listicle of historical events that have taken place in my country Nigeria. With the hope that this would be the beginning of creating a better understanding of the country, and the continent at large. These events do not define who we are today, but its part of or history — our heritage.

1879- Mary Slessor aborted the killing of twins.

In the eastern part of Nigeria, around 1800, there was a belief that twins were from the devil and they brought bad luck. So twin babies were either murdered or abandoned and left for dead.
