10 Tiny Mindset Shifts About Writing for Beginner Writers
There is no shortcut
Are you a beginner writer constantly anxious about making quick money through paid newsletters, ebooks, online courses, or other ways?
A few weeks ago, I was thinking about strategizing to make money through writing.
However, the stepping stone to achieve this is having a substantial email list and a trustworthy relationship with your readers.
There is no shortcut to writing daily for months and years.
So, how do you get the motivation to write if there is no financial reward?
Here are ten mindset shifts to refocus on the intangible gifts of writing.
#1. Writing is a long(and lifelong) game
You cannot write for long if you don’t have intrinsic motivation to write.
Write out of love. Money will flow automatically.
#2. Take writing as a mindful activity
Writing for ten minutes can be a refreshing activity for the brain.
Don’t check your mobile phone in your spare time. Instead, write a few words.
#3. Build a writing discipline
Before starting the day, write for a few minutes. The discipline helps to have a calm mind.
Writing discipline helps to have a healthy thought process.
#4. Be a curious writer
Train your mind to be excited to learn different writing lessons.
- Storytelling
- Copywriting
- Audience engagement
My favorite is storytelling. What is yours?
#5. Be a creator
Don’t just write. Craft exciting creative documents from your content.
Create ebooks or other content to document and share what you learn.
#6. Write for personal development
Note your learnings after every internet session.
Write during boredom instead of checking the phone. It helps to analyze your thoughts and emotions.
#7. Take writing as a friend
Do you feel a void in your mind and heart? Even if everything is fine externally, do you feel emotionally down?
Instead of scrolling mobile, you can start writing whatever comes to your mind.
Write as if you are talking to a friend. You will feel a lightness after writing for a few minutes.
#8. Do short-term planning
Do you have a quick writing audit? Ask yourself the questions below.
- How do you want to earn money through writing?
- What actions are you taking to achieve that?
- What tools do you need?
Follow the plan for the next six months and see where you land.
#9. Keep it simple
You don’t have to create a complicated notion template to track your progress.
Have a simple table to make the content planning.
Planning matters, but execution matters more.
#10. Have fun with writing
Previously, I made the mistake of converting writing to a full-fledged earning stream without exploring the creative and fun side of it.
- Write poetry
- Write memoir
- Create short stories
Fun is the primary component of writing for a long-term game.
These mindset shifts look tiny, but they impact your creative journey.
