2024 Is The Year for Purple

Purple has appeared a lot in the latest makeup launches. I’m not sure if people are actually wearing this color more or not. But what I do know is that there has been more popularity within the last year for wearing purple in makeup and in clothing as well . When Dior launched their lilac collection in their makeup, that was a sign that the color has been more of a popular color recently. To the point where even Dior released a whole collection signaling that the color is in demand and is on the rise.

With pink being the main choice when it comes to any cosmetic product, people feel forced to choose that color. When there may be other options that could better suit them. Especially if you are more tan, olive, or have more melanin in your skin. Pink will not always show up as flattering on your skin type. Of course it depends on the type of pink that you use. But specifically, the baby pink color that has been so popular and has always seemed to be the most feminine color that people continuously go back to. Is not the most flattering color for everyone. Which is why we see this rise of experimenting with other blush colors. Because although yes, we all would love to look like Sabrina Carpenter. It is not a realistic look everybody can achieve because what looks good on Sabrina Carpenter does not look good on everybody.

I personally been loving berry blush. I discovered it in 2023 when I was playing with blush at work and discovered how cute it looked on my brown skin. I really like to wear the color during the fall/winter because it brings more color to my face when it comes across more pale than usual. But I do think the beery blush can be used all year long.

Although everybody’s preferences are different and color popularity is ever changing with the seasons. I do think with the amount of lilac makeup launches that we’ve had this spring/summer. I do think lilac is the color for spring 2024. According to Patone, the actual color of 2024 is predicted to be peach fuzz. Which is a beautiful color and I do love the color peach and orange. But I am not seeing within social media and the online trends that people are embracing the peach color as much as they are the lilac color. I think the reason for this is because lilac comes across as pink once you put it on your skin versus peach colors. Although peaches, beautiful on so many skin tones. There is still such a strong Attachment to having a pink flush on your face. That I don’t think most girls will ever give up because of how beautiful it looks.

Another reason why I think lilac is more popular than the color purple itself is because of the Y2K aesthetic that people have been loving so much. This aesthetic is nothing new, but I do think people are trying their best to move away from the neutral colors that people have been confined to since 2020–2022. Now that society is more adapted to life and people are going out more, they want to be more expressive and wear more colors. During the early 2000s people were not afraid to play with color as well as experiment with their interest. So you’d see more unique colors, outfits, and hairstyles. Y2K colors are known to be bold, neon, and metallic. So lilac is perfect for being that bold pastel color that could easily be played with. Turning into metallic or a bold look very easily without being so dramatic to where it’s distasteful.

Some honorable mentions that I do think are also super popular colors for this season that more people are embracing are; red, coral, and orange. Because summer is so vibrant there are so many colors that people can play with that suit their needs versus other peoples. Summer is the season to be playful and vibrant, so there’s really no specific color that is perfect for the entire season of summer. There are so many colors that you can play with and wear to embrace this beautiful and warm season. (I’ve been wearing coral and red blush. Along with some nude pink here and there.)

Random Fact:

Lilac = first emotions of love. Representing youthfulness and innocence. (teleflora.com)

After seeing Lilac meaning, and how it relates to the Y2K aesthetic. I think it’s a perfect color that does reminisce that youthful feeling that people want from the Y2K aesthetics. Which is why I think there’s more of a rise and popularity with this color.

Purple = royalty, luxury, nobility, power, and ambition. (artsandculture.google.com)

Although there has been more of a push towards the lilac color versus purple. We can’t deny that purple is a very strong color and holds a lot of weight when worn. It looks sophisticated and makes the person wearing the color seem more confident. Call me crazy, but it is a presidential election year and people are more ambitious these days. Trying to push against societal and political rules more than ever.

What are your thoughts on purple? Or do you see other colors that are becoming more popular than normal?
