WHAT IS A DIGITAL NOMAD?

A digital nomad is a person who earns a living working online in various locations of their choosing (rather than a fixed business location).

Well, that is the school version of what a digital nomad is. But to be one, you have to have more than just the option to work from home.

You have to have the skill and knowledge to sell that skill, most often to people that you will never meet face-to-face.

As well as these things, you must have discipline to work from home or in a different country.

And you should know what kind of person you are and what kind of work suits you the best.

Every person has a niche that works for them, whether they are a copywriter or a freelance video editor.

But every digital nomad, regardless of profession, needs a base, and in this article, I give three reasons why Bosnia and Herzegovina should be that.

1. Affordability

For those seeking financial freedom, this Balkan country presents an enticing opportunity. One of the biggest advantages of living in Bosnia as a digital nomad is the affordable accommodation, food, and transportation options.

With a lower overall cost, you can stretch your budget further and indulge in experiences that may have been out of reach in other countries. Whether it’s renting an apartment, dining out at local restaurants, or hopping on a bus to explore the picturesque landscapes, you can fully enjoy your stay without worrying about breaking the bank.

In addition to the favorable cost of living, Bosnia also offers a straightforward visa process for many nationalities. This makes it easier for digital nomads to establish their base and stay for an extended period of time.

The currency in Bosnia and Herzegovina is the convertible mark (BAM). The BAM is pegged to the euro, which means that it is relatively stable. This makes it a good option for travelers who are on a budget.

2. Adventure & Beauty

Situated in Southeastern Europe, this hidden gem is nestled amidst majestic mountains and the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic Sea. Its diverse and breathtaking landscapes offer something for every type of adventurer.

Envision hiking through ancient forests, exploring hidden trails that lead to stunning waterfalls and mesmerizing viewpoints. During the winter months, the country transforms into a winter wonderland, making it the perfect destination for skiing enthusiasts.

But Bosnia’s allure does not end with its natural beauty. The country boasts an incredibly rich history, as evidenced by its well-preserved medieval towns and Ottoman relics. Walking through the narrow cobblestone streets of towns like Mostar or Sarajevo is like stepping back in time, where ancient architecture and charming plazas evoke a sense of nostalgia. The famous Stari Most, a reconstructed 16th-century Ottoman bridge in Mostar, stands as a testament to the country’s past.

3. Digital Nomad Community

Bosnia has emerged as a new hotspot for digital nomads, attracting a growing number of individuals seeking a remote work lifestyle. With its captivating blend of picturesque natural landscapes, rich history, and vibrant culture, Bosnia offers a unique and inspiring environment for those looking to work remotely.

What sets Bosnia apart from other destinations is its welcoming and supportive community. Whether through online forums, co-working spaces, or social events, digital nomads in Bosnia have ample opportunities to connect with like-minded individuals.

These connections enable knowledge sharing, collaboration, and the establishment of lasting friendships. The thriving digital nomad community in Bosnia adds a sense of belonging and support for those who have chosen the nomadic lifestyle.

Additionally, the country’s affordable cost of living and reliable internet infrastructure further enhance its appeal for remote workers.

Whether you’re working on a freelance project, running a start-up, or simply pursuing your passion while exploring a new country, Bosnia offers a conducive environment that embraces and empowers digital nomads.
