You may not think so, but you have a lot in common with Mr. Williamson

Zion Williamson is a physical specimen — 6' 6", 284 pounds of pure muscle. Very few people in the world are built like that, even for professional athletes.

Zion’s not just a workout beast though. He can and does perform well in real basketball. Zion had one block so great, an article was written about it. He once dunked from the free throw line (which is impressive for anyone, much less a player of his size).

It’s hard to feel any connection after hearing facts like that, but you’re more similar to Zion than you may think. He has had to endure a lot on the way to becoming a professional athlete.

Where you’re from doesn’t matter

Unlike many top recruits, Zion Williamson didn’t play for a powerhouse prep school — he played for a small private school called Spartanburg Day School (with 450 students).

That immediately puts him at a disadvantage in terms of recruiting. Coaches usually don’t come to watch a tiny school play, whether they have a star player or not.

It also puts Zion at a disadvantage that he’s playing other small schools. When you play bad competition, you don’t get as good — that’s just a fact.
