As you may know, Rumi was a thirteenth-century Persian Sufi mystic, thought to be born in Tajikistan, near the border of Afghanistan. Before settling in Turkey, he and his family became refugees, escaping the Mongolian invasion, living in Iran, Syria, and Saudi Arabia. He died in 1273 at the age of sixty-six.
