Have you ever wondered why some people clash while others seamlessly collaborate? Let’s look at a way to quickly and easily decode the secrets behind people’s actions and reactions.

An easy-to-learn behavioral approach

Since behaviors are observable, there is a proven way to improve communication and diffuse personal conflict. This simple tool will help you to quickly and effectively understand why others behave the way they do.

Known as the DISC behavioral assessment, it is one of the most powerful ways to help people better learn how to interact with one another. Its results are transformative, improving workplace relationships and morale, as well as strengthening your relationships with almost everyone you meet.

As one of the most widely used assessments in the world, it will help you understand what makes people tick. Unlike the Enneagram, which has nine types, or Myers-Briggs, which has sixteen, DISC simplifies human behavior into four easy-to-remember behavioral styles. Learning this system immediately enhances your ability to understand and connect with others.

Note: style and type are synonymous in this article and used interchangeably.

“Human behavior flows from three main sources: desire, emotion, and knowledge.” — Plato

The four types

Hippocrates, the founder of modern medicine, first recognized the four behavioral styles four hundred years before Christ. In the 1920s, Dr. William Marston, a psychologist and writer who created the fictional character Wonder Woman, modernized his descriptions by naming them Dominance, Influence, Steadfastness, and Conscientiousness, hence the acronym DISC.

DISC is unparalleled in its simplicity, memorability, and ability to improve interpersonal dynamics in teams and organizations quickly. Many DISC assessments are available online, some free of charge. Today, I want to help you identify your primary style — no test required.
