We have heard that “habits can change your destiny, habits can make your life”. From these words, we can see how powerful habits are. The reason why habits are important is that 40% to 50% of our behavior depends on unconscious habits. If we control our habits, they will become our best servants; if we cannot control our habits, they will become our worst masters.

So how can we quickly and effectively break bad habits and form good ones? This book “Mastering Habits” gives us a four steps: cue → craving → response → reward. Cues can trigger cravings → respond (take action) because of cravings → actions will be rewarded → rewards will satisfy our cravings and motivate us to look for more cues and continue to act to get rewards, forming a good cycle.

Step 1: Tip → Make Habits Obvious

The more obvious the reminder of the reward, the more likely we are to act.

1. Thinking habits

Thinking about habits is the first step to change them. We can find a piece of paper and write down our existing habits, and think about whether this habit is a good habit, a bad habit, or a neutral habit. By writing about a habit and thinking about its properties, we gain a deeper understanding of habits.
