閑かさや
岩にしみ入る
蝉の聲

しずかさや
いわにしみいる
せみのこえ

The stillness:
penetrating the rock
a cicada’s cry

Kyoshi (虚子)

底の石
ほと動き湧く
清水かな

そこのいわ
ほとうごきわく
しみずかな

A stone on the bottom
abruptly shifts and out flows
the clear water…

Getto (月斗)

春愁や
草を歩けば
草青く

しゅんしゅうや
くさをあるけば
くさあおく

Spring sorrow:
as I walk on the grass
the grass’s green

春雨や
小磯の小貝
ぬるる程

はるさめや
こいそのこがひ
ぬるるほど

Spring rain:
just enough to wet a little shell
on a little beach
