One of the prerequisites for making money online is building an email list.

But having an email list does not necessarily mean you can start printing money.

You have to do it right.

Doing it right means following the best practices like the high-earning solopreneurs.

I’ve been subscribed to some of the most popular of them for years — (e.g., Justin Welsh, Matt Gray, Nicolas Cole, and Dickie Bush).

Here are 5 email marketing best practices they all follow.

Steal them to start printing money like they do…

Emphasis on quality (not quantity)

It’s not about how big your list is…

It’s about the quality of it.

What’s the point of having a massive list if people don’t buy?

Most of your sales will come from those on your list, so it pays to be extremely specific about the type of people you get on there.

High-earning solopreneurs start building theirs with an extremely specific niche.

They place plenty of emphasis on quality.

Over time, this niche grows with them to the point where they become the niche and begin discussing broader topics.

For example, Dan Koe only used to talk about web design and Justin Welsh spoke about business growth.

TLDR: Start narrow.

Build with a narrow audience, then broaden.

I did this the opposite (broad to narrow) way, and it disrupted my business significantly…

Whenever I tried to sell something, people would mass unsubscribe, and nobody ever took the desired actions I wanted.

But this has changed since I narrowed my niche and scrubbed my list of all uninterested parties.

Audience segmentation
