Everyone thinks about various matters daily. Sometimes we have to make big decisions, some on the spot, while other needs time to evaluate all their outcomes so we can execute them efficiently. But what if we lost the power of decision? Or are we stuck in a spiral or loop of thoughts? What if we lost the ability to think positively? But how do we know whether we are overthinkers or not?

Here I put an objective list. These are designed to give you the perspective of your thoughts. So you can evaluate your mental health condition.

Thinking of all the worst-case scenarios:

You might fear that you will fail the exam. It leads you to fall in class and further fail in school, not getting any degree or a job. Why did I make that mistake?

Why do I always create problems?

Why everything happens to me only? If you are experiencing these kinds of questions in your head, you may be overthinking. To overcome this issue, you must change it with optimistic best-case scenarios.

Fixing things outside of your control:

Are you consistently refusing to accept reality and trying to solve matters that are out of your control? Do you the person who wants to gain control over things again, so you can change their result? Do you feel worried about uncontrollable issues? Then you may be overthinking. This habit will reduce your problem-solving skills because you focus too much on the problem instead of solving it.

You go deep into things to find meaning:

Do you start things frequently but end them occasionally? Are you someone who loves perfectionism or going too deep into something that sometimes doesn’t matter? Then you may be overthinking. This is a primary overthinking symptom. You just need to remember that going into deep thought will distract you from your path.

You feel stuck and unable to move forward:

Overthinking puts you in a state of vulnerability. You try to solve your problems, but no matter how much you do, you feel you’re not making any progress. You feel helpless and angry. Sometimes people in that state become too defensive against their loved ones who try to help them. But you just have to take a breath and start to think that Things are not as bad as it seems. There is popular advice to include focusing on your next step instead of on long-term goals. It is because each step pushes you towards your long-term goal.

Your bad mood can’t go away:

Constantly Overthinking can create harmful effects on your mental health. If you are eating your favourite meal or doing things that were your favourite in the past, but now you can’t feel any joy in doing this, you may be overthinking. To overcome this issue, you need to get some physical activity daily, like walking, running, or doing a hobby.

Takeaway:

Replaying past conversations in your head and dwelling on catastrophic outcomes is not helpful. But solving a problem is. So ask yourself if you want rumination or problem-solving habits. The past is gone; now present needs your attention. If you want to eliminate the habit of overthinking, you need to build a distraction that reminds you whenever you start overthinking. It takes time but is beneficial in the marathon of our life.
