A few days ago, while eating something quite spicy, I felt soreness in the corner of my lower lip.

That sensation was very unusual for me at the time. When I ran my tongue past it, I noticed an ulcer forming.

Mouth ulcers (also called aphthous stomatitis) are painful sores in the mouth.

They’re usually small and round and can occur anywhere inside the lips, cheeks, tongue, gums, the roof of the mouth, or palate.

My first instance was blaming the overconsumption of spicy and hot foods.

But, the reality of the problem lies in the amount of stress I’ve been under lately.

Usually, when I’m overworked, lacking in sleep, and extremely overtired, I develop mouth ulcers.

I’m a huge believer in noticing those small signs our bodies seem to create that derive from allowing external influences to disturb our peace of mind.

It’s not always easy to recognise — and I struggle with it daily.
