Seven Steps to Reduce Your Carbon Footprint
Are we doomed? No, but… We need to change and be more moderate.
What’s a carbon footprint?
A carbon footprint is a measurement of how much carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases (methane, water vapour, and ozone) are emitted by an individual.
The measure ideally covers every aspect of a person’s life: the energy used at home, the footprint from their diet, and the mode of transportation they use. The computation can be refined when more granular questions are asked, such as:
- the number of miles flown per year,
- whether car rides are done alone or with passengers; in such cases, the footprint of such an action is divided by the number of passengers,
- and the energy sources are used — e.g., are you getting your electricity from renewable sources or fossil fuels?
- Etc.
Where can I measure my carbon footprint?
There are a few calculators out there with different levels of granularity and methodologies.
