I woke up one morning almost a week ago to this text: “And TSwift is dropping an album tonight!!!!”

Needless to say, my morning was off to a good start.

I’ve loved every single one of Taylor Swift’s albums, and I appreciate her musical versatility and songwriting abilities. I felt especially excited to hear that this new album, “folklore,” was alternative music. I love this kind of music — don’t even get me started on how in love I am with Bon Iver’s music and his song with Swift on this album.

Additionally, I appreciate how Swift’s lyrics help me feel heard and understood after my own struggles in life and in love. When I struggle with social anxiety, depression and self-worth, her songs remind me that other people have experienced the same struggles and that I don’t need to feel ashamed. I feel valued, loved and less lonely.

Plus, I love her lowercase aesthetic in this album and its song titles. Every song on “folklore” is great; however, my top three are “cardigan,” “exile” and “this is me trying.”

Below are seven lyrics from this album that help me feel especially not alone and hopeful, and that remind me to watch out for unhealthy love, even though it can bring a new level of understanding.
