It takes three years of study to become a lawyer in the United States.

It takes between seven and eleven years to become a fully qualified doctor.

But becoming a leader is much easier. All you need to become a leader is a job title, apparently.

Hands up if you’ve ever looked at your boss and thought, “How the hell is this guy in charge?”

I used to be that boss. I was twenty-two years old when ‘manager’ became part of my job title for the first time, fresh out of university, without a clue what I was doing.

This is the reason we get bad bosses.

We get bad bosses because people are promoted into positions of leadership, not because they’ve trained for it or have experience, but because they were very good at the job they used to do.

Nobody wants to be a bad boss.

We all want to be the person our team would follow to the ends of the Earth. We’re just never given the tools to help us get there.
