The Inspiration
The inspiration for writing this article basically came from reading this Reddit thread.
Where a person is asking productivity advice from people, which he too can apply in his life.
Keep reading till the end to reap the full benefit of it.
Because today I am writing this article completely based on people's experiences.
Let's dive in.
Note: I am not covering anything new in this article. Because the key fundamentals always stay the same. So if you're finding something fancy in this article, it's better to close the article at this stage; otherwise, you'll get disappointed.
1. Embrace the boredom.
This technique is discussed by Cal Newport in his book "Deep Work" where he explains how doing nothing can play a crucial role in increasing focus in our lives.
Why does it work?
Due to the rise of smartphone usage, our brain has gone into constant stimulation mode.
It means it always needs something to entertain, something that will satisfy its cravings.
So when you do nothing in this time period, it gives you time to recover from that never-ending loop, and ultimately, you'll find yourself in a deeply focused mode.
2. Make it stupidly simple.
Take the easiest step possible.
Don't go for the massive action on day 1.
Because when you take massive actions, you expect massive results.
Instead, focus on what you can improve on a daily basis.
These seemingly unnoticeable steps have massive returns in the long run.
The main challenge here is to keep going.
3. Track your progress.
Buy an Xstreak calendar or simply use apps for tracking.
Do what you're comfortable with.
But it is said that if you want to see growth in a specific area of life, then simply start measuring it.
Just started hitting the gym?
Then track your progress. Celebrate your streaks. See what you can improve.
This gives you an upper hand over others.
Measuring our progress also keeps us motivated throughout our journey.
4. The Pomodoro Technique
I don't have to mention how famous this technique is.
It simply says to work in small, 25-minute intervals and then take a short, 5-minute break.
I have talked about it a lot in many of my previous articles. You probably know this if you're my long-time reader.
From my experience, if the pomodoro technique is used correctly, it can change your entire life.
5. Mental Healthcare
This is a must.
A healthy mind is a wealthy mind.
It is said that meditation is food for the mind.
So do include this important practice in your daily routine.
Apart from this, read or watch something that will boost your brain power.
We are stuck in a constant stimulation of mindless scrolling and wonder why we don't have enough energy to do something creative.
It's better to get out of this loop and do something that will impact our minds in a positive way.
I have been practicing meditation for 19 days straight and am already feeling a lot of improvement in my thinking process.
Here's proof of it: I just missed one day in this 19-day streak.
I have become a lot calmer and happier than before.
Try it yourself.
6. Planning in advance
Planning in advance definitely gives us a competitive edge over others.
Because you get more clarity about what you need to focus on.
Also, I personally recommend using the "I did it to-do list technique" to plan your day.
Basically, in this technique, you plan your to-do list like this:
I did 30 minutes of workout today (instead of writing "Do 30 minutes of workout").
Then, once you're done with the task, cancel it down with a pen.
7. Read Books
If you want to gather enough information about a topic, then just grab 3–4 good books written on it and blindly read them out.
You will be surprised to know that you've learned so much more than a useless graduation degree.
There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate’s loot on Treasure Island. — Walt Disney
The best books on productivity that I personally recommend are:
- Building a Second Brain: Learn a systematic framework to skyrocket your productivity.
- Getting Things Done: The Bible of Productivity.
- Essentialism: How focusing on essential things can change your life.
- The Power of Habit: The book that will help you build healthy habits and break the bad ones.
Thank you for reading.
