7 Things that Surprised Me about London
That don’t include the weather
Not going to lie, this article has been sitting in my drafts for about a year, but it’s better late than never to bring it to the world.
I moved to London about a year ago and here are the things that surprised me about the city.
1. Food is generally healthier
Europe has stricter regulations on food additives than the US. Here, additives and ingredients have to be proven safe before approval, while in the US, they have to be proven as harmful before they are banned.
We’ve tasted snacks present in the US and UK, such as Doritos and Sour Patch Kids, and snacks just taste healthier here! Even fast food, like McDonald’s tastes healthier here!
With the stricter regulations on additives and chemicals in Europe, it feels a lot healthier here.
2. Eating out is expensive, but groceries are reasonable
Eating out here is just as expensive as another cosmopolitan city like New York or San Francisco. I find that when I do eat out, I’m spending the same number as when I do in the US (e.g. 30 pounds vs. 30dollars), but since the pound is worth more, it’s that much more expensive.
