A 3-Step Guide On How To Handle Worry Easily
Use this brilliant technique to talk your mind out of worrying.
Worrying is the price you pay for something that has not happened yet
Step 1: Define Worry
What are you actually worried about?
Define it by writing it down on paper so you can actually see the problem in front of you instead of leaving it to brew in your mind.
By writing it down, it will feel like the problem, and emotions involved with it have been taken out of your mind and placed onto your desk in front of you. You can now look at the issue from outside the box making your mind open to more solutions.
When you define the problem in this way, your brain can then start questioning if it is something truly worth worrying about or if is it something that requires attention. Either way, it starts the ball rolling to get to the root of the problem.
Step 2: What Can You Do About It?
Now you know what the problem is you can start to look at all the potential solutions that fit the situation appropriately.
The best way to do this is by writing all the problems on the left-hand side of a page and then start writing all the solutions you can think of next to each problem.
To make it fun, include even the most silly solutions that you could possibly do if you lived in your own dream world where anything goes. It’s surprising to see what your mind manages to conjure up. This unchecked state of mind can unlock some interesting solutions.
As you do this, you will notice the easing of the tension in your mind and body as the worry starts to disappear. This is because you are doing something productive about the problem at hand.
When your mind understands that you’re processing the situation, there becomes very little to worry about as a result of it.
Step 3: What’s The Worst Case Scenario?
Now that you have a list of solutions to hand, you will feel hopeful that something can be done about the situation at hand but still, you may have doubts and continue to worry.
At this point, it’s a good idea to then list all the terrible things that could possibly happen if you decide to do nothing. Again, listing even the most ridiculous things can make the exercise quite humorous.
Once that’s done, then look at each worst-case scenario and write down what you can possibly do about each one of them as if you are planning in advance.
Get creative with this process. The more laughable the solutions, the less worry you will feel.
When you have done this process a few times, you will eventually get used to the system in your mind. It will train your subconscious to understand that you have the ability to handle anything that life throws at you.
Eventually, your personality will adapt to this and you will appear more confident in everyday life. This confidence will reduce the chances of you worrying because your mind will be able to resolve the vast majority of situations throughout the day.
Whichever solution you decide to pick to solve a problem, it will inevitably give birth to another 10 problems!
Why is that?
The truth is solving situations in real life is like playing a 3-way chess game. Whatever solution will solve one problem, may well disrupt something else. I know this is hard to accept but it is simply the nature of this world.
So, your best bet is to pick the solution with the best fit. Preferably the one that will give rise to the problems you think you can handle or the one that will give you the least number of problems in return. Either way, your mind is no longer in a state of worry.
