A Conversation in Sicily

In a chapter of Elio Vittorini’s bio-novel ‘Conversazione in Sicilia,’ the author and his mother discuss his father’s abandonment of her for another woman. Not a younger or prettier woman, just another. He notices, however, that his mother is not old. Quite the contrary, she is still relatively young, less than fifty, blonde and without any wrinkles in her face. Her breasts are still high and firm inside her bodice.
