Today is one of those days I was torn about whether or not to celebrate; to let rip with a splendid display of fireworks with an accompanying boisterous fanfare, or just to let it go by as un-noticed as a one degree rise in my SPO2 reading. It’s not as if any of the four children I allegedly fathered and have been estranged from some fifteen years have ever made any effort, despite all of the effort I made in their favour. Whatever, I have a wonderful partner who has spent all day making me feel special. Apart from that…

As days go, it hasn’t had much to recommend it so far. It’s been pissing down with rain none stop all day long. To make matters a touch more miserable, my lovely wife and I are under the weather with a rotten snot laden heavy cold. In fact this assault on our health has been going on for about three or four days. I seem to remember this situation about about the same time last year, and the year before that….So I guess it’s what you might call the perfect Groundhog Day. The only difference is this time it happens to be my 70th birthday.

I find it hard to believe I have somehow arrived at this momentous occasion, despite my best efforts to shorten my own life with too much of what is bad for you as well as a touch too much of what is…
